Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love.
On a day like today, it’s so easy to watch the (repeated) video footage of the bombings and say, “What is wrong with people?”
But take a closer look. This is what I see in the footage: Cops running into a thick cloud of dust to help, seconds after the explosion, without knowing what they’ll find or if there were any more bombs. Emergency workers sprinting back and forth while pushing wheelchairs and gurneys of injured people. Hundreds of citizen volunteers searching for survivors, even with the threat of secondary devices hovering over them. Regular people who just finished running a marathon, pushing past the finish line and continuing to run to the hospital to donate blood.
A few damaged people decided to do this. Yes, it’s terrible. Yes, we all wish something like this would never, ever happen. But for every villain, there are thousands standing against them.
It takes serious cowardice to stand at a distance and press a button that will kill people. Bravery is running into the danger, not knowing what to expect but knowing you have to help any way you can.
For every cop, EMT, volunteer, blood donor: Thank you. You’re the light shining against this darkness.
